About
the Encryption
KoolSpan
utilizes 256-bit AES Encryption, the most advanced commercially
available encryption technology. The KoolSpan Lock performs
all enryption/decryption functions in a hardware-based
ryptographic engine inside the Altera FPGA chip. In
conjunction with the Smart Card in the Lock, KoolSpan
is ultra-secure.
The
AES encryption technology provides for maximum protection
and minimum latency. VoIP telephone calls placed over
a secure KoolSpan connection are crisp and clear and
"real-time"- not the delay you would normally
expect to hear.
KoolSpan
goes beyond IPSec and SSL encryption by employing an
advanced "Per-Packet-Key". The AES Session
Key that is generated during the Authentication process
is actually never used directly in any communication.
What happens is that immediately after authentication
and generation of the AES Session Key, the Smart Card
is instructed to generate a new Random Number. This
random number is used as an offset to the AES Session
Key and a mathematical process is followed that derives
a new "per-packet" encryption key.
RESULT:
Every packet from every user utilizes a completely new
AES Key. The most common form of attack, the "Dictionary
Attack" is impossible with KoolSpan as no two packets
utilize the same key.
IPSec
is a unicast protocol. It allows a user to connect securely
to a remote network typically through a VPN gateway
or concentrator. Unfortunately, there is no provision
for broadcast or multicast capability, especially not
securely. Ever wonder why you can't discover other machines
in the LAN via Network Neighborhoods when connected
from a remote location?
Well,
with KoolSpan, you can. The KoolSpan Lock ensures that
all relevant network traffic including broadcast and
multicast traffic reaches you and vice-versa. KoolSpan
generates a special parameter that allows each individual
user to receive secure broadcast and multicast traffic.
When
we say that anything you can do in the office, you can
do in the field - we mean it.
